King Trumps Queen Narcissus: song confronting Narcissism by Mark Ramsey Gott

September 29, 2017

Have you been affected by a relationship with a Narcissist? I have and it took me a few years to get over it. Part of the process of recovery for me was to find my voice and stolen identity through song. I wrote this during my recovery and it enabled me to confront issues of self doubt. Yes, there is a lot of bitterness in it, but there is also a lot of identification of the problem and solutions to it. The lyric 'from such people turn away' is from the Bible. Yes, the Bible identifies Narcissists too and tells you how to deal with them:

2 Timothy 1-5

1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

It is a hard lesson to learn that the only way to deal with these people is to walk away and go 'no contact'. By voicing my experience in song, from my most desperate of days, I hope that listeners who are also suffering can find some comfort and know, that like me, you can get over it. MRG
