The suspension is killing: the story behind Mark Ramsey Gott's song 'Worth Another Shilling'.

The song 'Worth Another Shilling' explores a narrative that is partially based on personal experiences. In my younger years, I briefly lived in a modest bedsit on the seafront in Cleveleys, located at the end of the Blackpool tramline. Adjacent to the bedsit were amusement arcades where I would regularly spend a few shillings each day playing the machines. In close proximity was the Blackpool funfair, where I would often enjoy the exhilarating thrill of riding the big dipper, experiencing a suspended moment mid-air before descending the steepest drop. The move from my hometown of Nottingham resulted in the end of a romantic relationship I was involved in at the time. On windy days, leaving the bedsit became a challenge due to the strong gusts that would push one back indoors. My time in Cleveleys was short-lived, and I was grateful to return to Nottingham. 'Worth Another Shilling' provides a glimpse into the journey of that young man, highlighting the inherent risks in life's decisions. While some outcomes are favourable, others lead to a sense of loss, prompting a return to one's roots.
